Saw this last week with my friend Sonya and it was GREAT–almost as good as the original. It’s incredible how they crafted an almost scene-by-scene staging of the original anime–by making clever use of a rotating stage, puppets, and visual effects–that never felt derivative. The actors did an amazing job of mimicking the movements and style of the anime characters. And Koharu Sugawara, my favorite Japanese choreographer, acts Kaonashi (No Face)! Highly recommended.
