Powder Room Remodel Days 11 and 12: Spackle and Painting

I always say with remodeling that 80% of the project takes 20% of the time, and the last 20% of the project (painting, trim, etc.) takes 80% of the time. I think that’s because there’s a lot of timing that goes into it—waiting for paint to dry or caulk to cure, and also because people only have so much time to spend intensively on DIY remodeling projects, so those awkward timing bits suddenly have to get fit into a full-time work schedule, etc. That’s kinda the phase the powder room remodel is in at the moment, though I will say I intend to have the whole thing done and dusted by Saturday night….

The last two days have largely been spent waiting for things to dry/cure: plaster, paint, grout sealer. So, this picture isn’t going to look a lot different other than the holes in the wall that are no longer there. But the final coat of paint is on the walls, the grout is sealed, and the last coat of paint is on all the cabinets and doors. So, we’re moving into trim work!

DOD (Drama of the Day): I used all-purpose joint compound instead of topping compound for my knockdown texture on my patches; the all-purpose has a bit of glue in it, so when it dried it was *really* hard to knock down. I forgot that and will not make that mistake again. Live and learn.
