Here’s what I’m grooving to these days:

  • Ghost of Tsushima: I’ll write a review of it when I’m done, but it’s an incredible video game. I’m particularly proud of the fact that I successfully upgraded the GPU in my 2017 Dell Inspiron 3668 so I could play it on my existing machine instead of dropping $500 on a new PlayStation. My dad was a programmer, and though he didn’t teach me a lot of specifics about programming or computers (because I wasn’t particularly interested in learning as a kid), I did learn the most valuable lesson from him, which is not to be afraid of them. As a result, I’ve been able to do the majority of my own tech support over the years. I feel lucky that I grew up in the era when you could actually see the dipswitches on your PC; I think I have a better feel for how computers and software actually do their thing than many of my students do.
  • This muay thai expert. The man’s physical intelligence is off the chain.
  • Grand Sumo: It’s basho time, baby! This time in Nagoya, and my two favorite rikishi (Takayasu and Wakatakakage) are performing really well. (And speaking of Wakatakakage, here’s a video of him getting his hair done for the basho).
  • Josh Johnson is killing it lately with his hilarious stand-up routines about current politics and events. He’s a storyteller rather than a punchline machine. He’s doing a residency at the Daily Show this week.
  • I just installed more of these transparent, repositionable no-slip strips on my hardwood stairs for Rye, our resident canine senior citizen; they’re unobtrusive and work really well.
  • I’ll do a full post on it next week, but we’ve been having fun experimenting with shibori dyeing using instant indigo dyes from Yamato Indigo.
  • Just experienced an amazing evening with Rhiannon Giddens & the Old Time Revue; take a listen to the samples linked from her website–she’s so multitalented you’re bound to find something you like!
