So, I’m back in the Spreewald for a work/fun retreat with my colleague Birgit and her friends Ruth and Tasja. The weather is drop-dead gorgeous, and so far we’ve biked to town and rented kayaks to paddle the network of canals here. I was in the middle of trying to explain Spreewald to my friend Malena, who lives in Louisiana, when I realized, “Oh, it’s just a German bayou!” Sans alligators, that is…. As I think I posted before, the Zorbish settlers started seriously draining the source of the Spree river starting in the 18th century so they could build farms on the network of resulting islands.
I forgot my adapter to connect my real camera to my computer, so I’ll have to wait to post those pictures until I’m back in Berlin. But I’ll post cell-phone pics this week along with accounts of our adventures….
