This one goes to 11.
- Woody perfumes are my favorite, and cedar is my favorite note in that category. This is a really nice deep dive from Fragrantica into where those notes comes from.
- I hate Strava for a number of reasons, but I absolutely love it when people use it (and other GPS-tracking apps) to make map-scale doodles of T. Rexes and other fun shapes.
- The Adventures of Prince Achmed is an amazing early (1926) shadow-puppet-style animated feature by Lotte Reiniger, and this short documentary on her work is really interesting.
- I don’t love all of David McCandless’s data visualizations (I find a lot of them long on style and short on substance). However, this one on overrated dog breeds is pure genius in every way.
- I am trying to train my dogs to put away their toys and am getting nowhere. Maybe I just need to show them this video of a pig doing the job in record time.
- This is an awesome interview with a birding expert on matching heavy-metal vocalists to the avian species they sound most like.
- A very useful guide to clam types from Serious Eats.
- So beautiful and inspiring: 15 Indian Cuisine Instagrams to Follow
- I have yet to show this video to anyone who hasn’t laugh-cried. NB: You do have to have at least some familiarity with this Miley Cyrus video to get the joke (just linking to a GIF of the relevant scene there as the video in its entirety is NSFW).
- Hilarious and very shreddy metal cover of Toto’s “Africa.”
- A bit out of season, but put a pin in this one: Some really nice summer drink ideas from Heidi Swanson over at 101 Cookbooks.
I continue to be amazed at how much data (of all types) you can process at one time and how short that time is. You definitely inherited that from your father! Congratulations!
