Letter of Recommendation: Christmas Pyramids

I think I’ve already established that I’m pro-Christmas. I have a pretty elaborate decorating scheme this year that I’ll share once it’s all set up, but for now I wanted to put on your holiday radar an old favorite that I’ve recently rediscovered: German Christmas pyramids. They’re called pyramids because the most famous of them are multi-storey affairs, some nearly lifesize. The one we had when we were kids was only single-storey and made of brass: it looked like this one (and is apparently Swedish rather than German). But last year when we were figuring all this out, my sister and I discovered Erzgebirge Palace, a web store from the region of Germany that specializes in pyramids. They’re all handmade. My sister bought this beautiful little natural one with deer, and this year, I got one to go with my (ever expanding) Christmas gnome collection. They’re mesmerizing and cheerful. I’d love to get one of the big wedding-cake ones but (a) have no idea where I would store it, (b) would probably break it, and (c) suspect I would somehow burn down my house with it. So, I’ll settle for a little guy.
