I get a lot of questions from friends about where I find recipes, so I thought I’d start a list here. See this post for how I curate feeds from these blogs and organize the recipes once I find them:
- Serious Eats. This is the site I’ve consulted most frequently over the years. The older archives are better, but they still produce good content. J. Kenji Lopez-Alt and Stella Parks are two of my favorite recipe developers there.
- Two Sleevers: For global cuisine adapted to the instant pot. Everything I’ve tried has been great so far.
- Amy + Jacky: My go-to instant pot blog. Everything is well-tested and reliable with great instructions. While the recipes trend Asian, there’s a wide range of useful content.
- Local Milk: Really inventive and original dishes, beautiful prose, incredible photography; Beth was doing the dark thing before anyone else. Again, the older archive is better here as she’s shifted her focus to small-business development.
- 101 Cookbooks: Heidi Swanson was one of the OG food bloggers, so everyone probably knows about her site already, but she still updates frequently, and I still find really good, unique vegetarian recipes here.
- Smitten Kitchen: Again, everyone already knows this site, but Deb’s consistently good, interesting recipes and engaging writing style merit a repeat mention.
- Sally’s Baking Addiction: If you can’t get your mom to call you back with her recipe for vanilla buttercream frosting in time to finish your cake for the birthday party, go here.
- Lottie + Doof: Tim doesn’t post recipes as frequently now, but he’s got a good palate and eye for the best recipes from new cookbooks and chefs.
- David Lebovitz: For baked goods and cocktails, plus killer Paris recommendations.
- Just One Cookbook: I shouted out Namiko on my post about umeboshi. Excellent Japanese recipes adapted well for the home cook in the U.S. who may not be able to get specialized ingredients.
- Maangchi: She’s more famous for her YouTube channel, but her blog has the recipe for every Korean dish you’ve ever hoped to recreate at home. And check out her channel; I love her style.
- Woks of Life: My go-to for Chinese cuisine.
- Lady & Pups: If you want to try to recreate the latest Tokyo or Seoul café sensation, like imploding honey kasutera (several years out of date now, I know), she’s your girl. Her luscious food photography and irreverent tone make this blog worth a visit as well.
- Hunter/Angler/Gardener/Cook: Hank Shaw’s blog is my reference for foraged and wild food in my region. But for folks not into foraging, he provides good substitutes in his recipes, which are reliable and cover a range of cuisines–with a slight western-Mexican accent. I went to a pop-up wildcrafted dinner he cooked at Stella in Truckee, CA; it was fantastic, and he’s a really friendly, approachable expert.
